Mood swings and how to deal

Tips to calm down a person during mood swings.

The first step to calm down a person who has mood swings is to identify the emotion they are going through. It is important to note that persons with autism Spectrum disorders find it extremely difficult to express their exact feelings. To ease the process, you can use a rating scale to know the level of anger. Ask the person to rate their anger from 1-5 – one neutral and five extremely angry.
The second step is to understand and label the person’s emotions, such as happiness, excitement, shame, etc. Use social stories to explain and label
these emotions. For example, I feel happy when I am eating ice cream.
