What Are The Types Of Speech And Hearing Disabilities?
There are mainly five types of hearing impairment or disabilities. The types are as follows:
Conductive Hearing Loss: It happens because of some defects in the middle ear. In this case, the sound does not conduct efficiently in the inner ear.
Sensorineural Hearing Loss: This may be caused by damage or disease in the inner ear.
Mixed Hearing Loss: It is an amalgamation of conductive and sensorineural hearing loss. It can be caused by an ear infection called Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM)
Central Hearing Loss: It happens due to some damage or malformation of neural pathways in the brain.
Functional Hearing Loss: It is caused by some psychogenic condition or exaggeration of hearing thresholds.
And in the case of speech disabilities, there are primarily nine types of speech disabilities that regular therapy sessions can cure. The types are as follows:
-
Childhood Apraxia Of Speech
-
Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders
-
Articulation Disorder
-
Stuttering and Other Fluency Disorders

Autism Related Speech Disorder
